I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs or insanity for everyone, but they've always worked for me.

daveyj_jonestones.jpgThe temperature was -10 and Davey J and the Jones Tones were heating up the Hallie Bar on Friday night.  The band, lead by Davey Jones who's day job is in the English Department faculty at UWEC, is a mellow blues band.  They feature sounds with that happy, blues beat from Chicago.

They are a steady band and feature good rhythms from Catya von Karolyi on bass, also a member of the UWEC faculty.  Their sound was good and a change of pace from our regular rough, raw, grunge blues listening.  It was fun to have a night out after several weeks of not doing anything.

However, since I always seem to have to complain about something I really must bring this up.  The temperatures in the Hallie Bar could have been described as "refreshing"  I don't know if it was a cost saving measure, environmental conscienscious, or just an undersized heat plant.  I just know I was under dressed.  Adding to this, the crowd in the bar was small.  In the room with the stage there were just five of us.  In the bar, less than half the bar stools had elbow benders on them.  Finally, at the end of the second set, I had had enough.  We decided to leave and go back to the Snout for a last drink.  Where, though there was no music, I have never been cold.  Arriving there, we discovered we were the only customers.  Is there any doubt this country is in a slump?  When the bars are empty in Wisconsin, it is a sign of serious trouble!
