I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs or insanity for everyone, but they've always worked for me. ~Hunter S. Thompson

It was a full house at Harmony Corner's Cafe. The warm up piano player just had announced his final song and Paul Cook, half of the accordion band, Squeeze This, leaned over to me. He said "We still get butterflys". Joel Jensen, his other half said, "I heard Barbara Strisand throws up before every show", To which Cook replied, "We could do that, but then we'd have to sing that 'People' song". It is this mix of campy humor and good fun which makes up a Squeeze This performance. The Harmony Corner's Cafe is tucked, and I do mean tucked, in a small shopping mall off Mall Drive in Eau Claire. Across and between Savers and Famous Dave's in the gift shop, Old Elbow Schoolhouse. I don't know what their business plan says, but I have some hope that in the near future it includes a sign for their storefront. Literally the only way I found the cafe was by identifying Paul Cook's odd, little boxy, Scion parked in the lot. A Google Maps search for the name shows a Starbucks on the west side. ...How much do you suppose that feature costs them? Harmony Corner's needs to talk to Aimee Abbott about a web site! ..ok, blatant plug complete. Harmony Corner's features live music every Friday night (except this coming Friday because of Easter) It is my understanding that usually is Jazz piano fare, <cough, cough> if you like that sort of thing. Musical high points, I was lucky to catch on tape, a dedicated performance of Ghost Chickens in the Sky the music tends to be what can be best described as an eclectic mix. I have seen them perform Queen, Rolling Stones, Bach. Really, almost anything but a polka. They say they only know one polka, and even it starts out with the opening bars to Space Odyssey. An interesting development since I had last reviewed the band, Joel Jensen sings a song. He has quite a good voice. It is good that talent isn't going to waste! A little old-timey, a little blues, a little rock and roll. Some of it made up, some of it flubbed, but, all of it, lots of fun.
Squeeze This played two sets. For the second, Joanna Dane, (Freak & Geek Chapter President and High Queen) wielded her authority and asked Cook and Jensen to change chairs. An action that was seen by our table as an effort to trip up the band, so she could step to the stage and take over with her newly Peter Phippon oiled flute. This Squeeze, however, rose to the challenge and played a great second set! I am sure, much to the disappointment of Dane.
Seeing Squeeze This is always a fun time. If you enjoy the humor, the made up songs and watching two men who are having an even better time than you are, Squeeze This is a must see.
