| If I'd written all the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 people - including me - would be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism. Hunter S. Thompson |

After the show, Brian asked me to not write about this one. I grunted in response, which I feel can't truly be classified as either a yes or a no. So here I am. It was a rare, not good show at the Snout Saloon this week. Not completely because of any fault of Brian's, it was, in combination with a few other things, an odd crowd. The crowd at the Snout was one I would have thought would have felt more at home over at My Place bar in Eau Claire. My Place has the dubious distinction of Toughest Bar in the Chippewa Valley according to the Volume One poll. And the Snout crowd would have been perfect there. There were lots of times the crowd seemed a little borderline violent. Other times, it was over the line, like when I saw an overweight drunken woman, body slam an aging drunken hippie onto the floor. (I think they were husband and wife, so at least it keeps the violence in the family) I don't know if it was the phase of the moon, air pressure or just what but most everyone there was feeling a bit on edge. After closing, bartender extraordinaire, Chad Kruger confessed, "I can't believe we didn't have a fight in here!" Despite the crowd, there were other problems because I think Brian's mind is elsewhere right now. Until his new CD is fully mixed down and sent off to the production company. I think even when he is on stage his mind is still at the mixing board. It comes down to, how good the live show is going to be these days, is a measure of how successful the day of recording and mixing has gone. So, the combination of a hostile crowd and a distracted performer made for not the best of nights. And remember, I see lots of shows, so I split hairs. This, perhaps not the best Brian Bethke show, still didn't suck.Brian's new CD is going to be available for download, and there is a CD release party <cough><cough> assuming he gets it done, at the Acoustic Cafe in Eau Claire on March 26th.
I haven't really been writing much lately. I went from having a hand injury straight into being sick for a week. I just haven't felt up to it. Plus, I am having some musical boredom. Brian and I talked some about it before, during and after his show at the Snout. He and I are suffering the same trouble, just for opposite reasons. He has to go out, week after week and do the same thing, sing the same songs. I go out week after week, many times seeing the same musicians, but I have to write about something new each time. I don't think there is any cure for either of us. Spring needs to come. Hits: 171 Comments (2)Subscribe to this comment's feed...
Great news for Brian Bethke fans, this showed up on Facebook last night:
The Album is mixed! You can here the complete album on Underdog radio this Sunday at 8pm! :-)
Thanks man! I can always count on you being honest! I think I will be distracted for a while. This album is bitter sweat. I am usually overwhelmed by joy when I finish a album but this time it has become clouded by thoughts of my suffering mother.
Love you guys keep up the good honest work, Brian Write comment
