If I'd written all the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 people - including me - would be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism.

Lost Marbles at the Snout Saloon
Lucky for us music fans, Chad Kruger bartender at the Snout Saloon still has birthdays every year.  I have given up the practice myself, but Chad has not yet.  And when the guy that can hire any band he wants throws a birthday party, you are guaranteed a good time.  Saturday night was no exception.  The band Lost Marbles eventually took the stage, an hour and a quarter late.  ...get this, their excuse was they were lost...

It was a fun party and the bar was packed with people.  I didn't shoot any video because you could barely see the band it was so packed with people.  About half of the music was originals, the other half heavily modified covers.

Last week I also got out alone to catch OCD at the Snout Saloon.    I don't usually get out alone, and when I do there is usually quid pro quo required.  But that night the Wife was on a mission.  I didn't get too much grief about slipping  out alone because she was sitting with her stack of Twilight movies.  What are they up to now, about twelve of them or something?  Maybe it only *seems* like that many.   She was trying to get through the stack in preparation of seeing the latest one in the theatre the next day.

OCD was good.  I would classify them as being like the local band Phoenix, only with a bit more teeth.  Their music has more of an edge to it.  I think their musical age range is maybe a little wider than Phoenix as well.  They don't give a flawless performance but they weren't bad.  For my part, I felt like the music was a few years too old for me.  There was more grey hair than I was comfortable with in the audience.

The other night I also happened to catch the final few songs of Assembly Required's set at Every Buddy's Bar the other night.  Now I have to say they have changed quite a lot since I first started seeing this band.  I also admit to expending a great deal of humor at their expense.  I have called them a number of names, Practice Required, Tuning Required on a grumpy night I even called them Talent Required.  But this joking aside, what I saw the other night continues to be an improvement.  It was the first time I have seen them since Nick Foytik joined the band.

It is interesting to me Assembly Required seems to have gotten to the point where it is greater than the sum of its parts.  Back when I first saw them, they were vocally weak, instrumentally weak, biding time between sometimes spectacular, sometimes not, Andy Hayhoe solos.  Andy left the band and Chris Way came in.  Now I don't think Chris was nearly as good of player at that time than Andy, and yet the band improved.  There was a brief stint where {Jason Chambers} was in the band and I think there was some improvement then, but I felt like there was also struggle.  But now Nick joined them and the band has improved again.

My musical highlights for the night was a great cover of Pearl Jam,  Black.  But there were also other highpoints.   There were songs I would normally consider a sacrilege to perform, Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb but really Assembly Required did a pretty good job with it.  They are still not the strongest vocally, but instrumentally I was fairly happy.
