 Fri, March 12, 7:30pm – 9:30pm Heyde Center for the Arts The CVCA is proud to welcome Different Drums of Ireland to the Heyde Center for the Arts - direct from Northern Ireland. Started in 1991 as a deliberate exercise in community relations, the group brings the indigenous drums of Ireland together for the first time ever in a celebratory performance. The huge Lambeg (the loudest drum in the world) represents the Protestant culture; the wee Bodhran is a symbol of the Catholic people. Having these drums side by side on stage was initially uncomfortable for both groups, but the music conquered all! Irish songs, other drums, whistles and Uilleann pipes contribute to the excitement. DDI has traveled the world and performed for the President of Ireland and members of the British royal family, at the White House with Phil Coulter and the Irish flutist Sir James Galway, with Gregory Peck in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, NY, as well as at Irish Fest in Milwaukee and on tour with the Trinity Irish Dance Company. They are delighted to be coming to the U.S. for this prelude to St. Patrick’s Day concert. Admission: adults $14, seniors $12, youth $8. |
