Don't get me wrong. I sang along just as loud as everyone else during the chorus of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here and I had been happy ever since I walked in just in time to hear the Blind Melon song, No Rain. And, though Brian only played two Nirvana songs, with a voice startlingly like Cobain's, I was connected. Or I thought I was. But, then came an original piece. And, I found myself being less distracted than I usually am for other bands' originals. And, then a few songs later, another. And the same thing happened. Then the night was over and I was doing the post show analsys, as I drove up the hill. I found that the high point of the night for me was not some 70's cover, like most other nights. The high point for me was the encore, a repeat playing of a Brian Bethke original piece, Aubureen. Brian will be playing again on November 8th at the Acoustic Cafe at 7pm. I recommend this show highly. Brian would be the first to admit. He is a strummer. Just an average guitar player. His skill lies in his voice. He has great range. If you love vocal performance, and songs with a raw acoustic edge, this is your show. Comments (1)
