These are my mother's sugar cookies. She got the recipe from a radio show called Kitchen Klatter, which originated out of Shenandoah, Iowa. My mother tuned in and listened every day.
Sugar Cookies Sift together the following: 3 Cups Flour 2 teaspoons Baking Powder 1 scant teaspoon Baking Soda 1/4th teaspoon Nutmeg Into this blend one cup (two sticks) of butter. For this blending it is best to use a pastry cutter, but you can also use the whisk on a Kitchen Aid mixer.
In another bowl beat 2 Eggs 1 Cup Sugar 4 Tablespoons of Milk 1 teaspoon of vanilla
Add this mixture to the dry ingreadients. Do not over mix. Cover and chill in the refridgerator, overnight if possiblle. Roll out thin, for cookies like mom made. Thicker for doughy frosted cookies. Dough will be sticky so flour the board and roller, but use the minimum amount of flour to keep the dough from sticking.
