It was an evening of firsts. I feel somewhat ashamed admitting this, music fan that I am, but this was the first time I have ever been into the Mousetrap. It is a great venue for music! I really like the layout, where the people who want to sit at the bar, are away from the people who are there for the music. The Mousetrap, with its combined storefronts allow this ability.

I have to admit, the week before the show, when I was telling a friend there was going to be an Allman Brothers tribute band playing at the Snout, I couldn't come up with a single song title. I knew I would recognize the music, because I grew up in that timeframe. But still, to name one? The week before the show, I consulted iTunes and downloaded the Essential Allman Brothers just to brush up a bit.

When they were playing, the harmonies were flawless. And, when they were playing, the flute, the guitar, the drums, the vocal solos, were all fantastic. But, QuinnElizabeth had some technical issues. Compounded by adjustments, guitar passing, sisterly bickering, and trivia questions. So, sadly, we didn't get as long to enjoy the three sisters actually playing music. What we did hear, I enjoyed very much. This is only the second time I have seen the band. And I enjoyed them equally each time. The two shows were very different of course. The State Theater with it's perfect lighting and focused audience compared to music over coffee and conversation at the Acoustic Cafe. I wish I would have gotten a little more music for my forty minute roundtrip, what I got I certainly enjoyed.

At times it was a little busy but there were also times when there were less than a dozen people, belly'd up to the bar at the Snout Saloon. A very quiet night indeed. It is possible all the blues fans were up in Tilden where the Bear Creek Band was playing at Brazinas. Its possible everyone was sitting at home worried that the Cowboys couldn't womp the Vikings and avenge the Pack the next day. Who knows. Whatever the reason, Str8up did a great show.

It was a huge crowd at the Snout Saloon in Chippewa Falls. Maybe the consistently busiest I have ever seen the Snout for a full night. There was never a slow time at the bar. The band was Assembly Required. I am not going to say that they are a great band. Frankly they need a little work. But, what I will say is they have a great song selection. They know how to work the crowd and build up some excitement, and in so doing, they make for a great party band. So, they were perfect for New Years Eve at the Snout.

It was a full weekend of music. Two nights of music at the Snout Saloon. Friday night was Volume One's Best Blue Band, Mojo Lemon and then Saturday night it was Steve Meyer and Blues Dogs. I almost thought it was going to be the perfect trifecta, because I had thought Billy Krause was playing at the Red Parrot Nightclub as an early show on Friday night. …Which, to tell you the truth, I was looking forward to more than the other shows. But Friday afternoon came and I checked my Facebook, only to find people talking about "last night's show." Turns out it was a Thursday night show and I had missed it.

At the State Theater, another night of Volume One's Backstage Series. The band South Farwell, with guest The Klenz/Walk Jazz Sextet. And, just down a couple of blocks Eau Claire street, The Old Fashioneds playing at The Haymarket Grill. It was a great night to enjoy local talent.

It was a packed house. One of those, Fire Marshall look the other way, size crowds. All of us compressed and sweating at the Infinitea Tea House at 112 East Grand Ave. The Tea house often hosts bands and has live Jazz every Tuesday night. But it was a Monday night, the crowd took the employees by surprise. On stage warming up for Will Deed's Army was former Chippewa Falls, now NYC, Will Anderson with his one man band, Weed. The music? Did I like it? I liked the closing song, which he was playing some loops, recording his sounds and playing with them. As far as the rest of it, humm, I am not sure I feel qualified to answer.
