The bar was really fairly full considering the weather. Winter has finally arrived, and the most beautiful fall I can ever remember is past us. I think I put more miles on the Harley this fall than I did all summer. It was amazing. But, those days are officially gone now. Saturday night not long before the start of the Chippewa Falls winter parade, the snowflakes started coming down. By the time we arrived at the Snout, there was a wet four inches on the ground. So really, to see the bar fairly full was impressive. On stage, Thick Shoe along with, the rumored about for a week, special guest, Howard "Guitar" Luedtke. It was a good night.

Lucky for us music fans, Chad Kruger bartender at the Snout Saloon still has birthdays every year. I have given up the practice myself, but Chad has not yet. And when the guy that can hire any band he wants throws a birthday party, you are guaranteed a good time. Saturday night was no exception. The band Lost Marbles eventually took the stage, an hour and a quarter late. ...get this, their excuse was they were lost...

The usual Saturday night to be out on the town was not available this week, so we were looking for a Friday night show. It never ceases to amaze me that in the Chippewa Valley, you don't usually have to look very far for live music. Unless it is a Monday night, quite likely you are going to find a live show within 15 miles of your doorstep. This night, it was The James Sheeley House and a Twin Cities artist, Nici Peper on stage. A great artist with a lively crowd along with the great beer selection of the Sheeley House all made for a great night in Chippewa Falls.

It was like old home week at the Snout Saloon with lots of familiar faces from back when the Snout was a blues bar. Well, on Saturday night it was again. A good crowd, fairly steady all night. And, a dancing crowd. By the third set, most every bar stool was emptied as the floor was filled for every song. It was a great party, and a night with two bars with stages, yards apart on a temperate night. A great night to be in downtown Chippewa Falls.

It was pretty much a full house at the Tomahawk Room in Chippewa Falls for Looking Glass Down, a new duo made up of two local musicians. Lucas Fischer, best known for his band Luke Fischer and the Coolhand Saints which frequently plays at the James Sheeley House. And, Thomas Nutting who is a popular solo artist around the area. The combination of the two was nothing short of outstanding!

It was a great night of music in downtown Chippewa Falls. I love it when the two Central Street bars both have music on the same night. I love walking a few yards during set break of one band and be able to walk in on another. Particularly when the musical styles are diverse as they were on Saturday night. Blues at the Snout and Metal at Every Buddy's. I was happy to make the walk between the two!

It was a big crowd at the Acoustic Cafe for East Hill Bluegrass Band. And, it was a tuned in crowd as well. At this venue usually I see more music being the background to eating and conversation. Not so for East Hill Bluegrass on this night. The noise level was lower, you could see lips moving, miming the lyrics. The fans were having a good time, enjoying a band they loved. And, the band was having a good time with it. A great combination for the night!

So if you are a frequent reader you know Saturday night we were up in a bar in Holcombe and got cut off of drinks over an unfortunate gravitational incident. Seeking friendlier ground we rolled back into Chippewa Falls knowing there was music at two or three bars. Though we didn't know the bands, we figured we would find something palatable anyway. We got way, way more than we expected when we walked into Every Buddy's Bar & Grill where Mercies May was nearing the end of their final set. It turned kind of a short night into a happy ending!
