It was a good sized crowd at the Mousetrap in Eau Claire Wisconsin for the band of the night, Left Wing Bourbon. By the second set, the dance floor was usually filled with people rocking' out. The fan base, or, at least the fan base of the night, had a decidedly bohemian look. The fans seem to know the music well, a sign the band provides consistent goodness. Left Wing Bourbon puts on a fun party, and it was a good night to be at the Mousetrap.

Tonight was Different Drums of Ireland on the Heyde Center stage. The band was on tour all the way from Derry City and Belfast Northern Ireland. It was an interesting show. The second such interesting show I have seen at the Heyde Center featuring drums. The last time I was there it was for Japanese Taiko drums. The band, Different Drums of Ireland, played well. They involved the audience, even teaching us to clap out a beat by seating section. It was a fun show, a fascinating show, and I thank the Chippewa Valley Cultural Association for bringing them in.

This was the 31st year of Decadent Cabaret, but my first time to attend. The show bills itself as "A tradition of fishnet stockings and notoriously memorable musical performances", to which I would agree on both counts. It is close to musical overload, eleven bands in one long night. And, there were two other nights I didn't attend. It was a variety of music, starting more mellow early in the evening and spanning to blasting, roaring heavy metal by the end. What made it personally very cool for me, was not only my first experience at the Decadent Cabaret, but also, with the exception of Excellent Adventure, it was all new bands to me.

Another very small crowd at the Snout Saloon. Typical for what has been in the bar since New Years. The music was a solo act by acoustic guitarist Jason Chambers, who plays regularly at the Sheely House. Jason plays a very wide range of songs and plays them all very well. He plays in a musical style where the chords are sloppy or mushy, letting his voice, which is clear, really stand out. What Jason has is the ability to hit the high notes. A rare thing for dudes. At one point he even mentioned "Yeah, I know, I sing like a girl…" But, girl or not, it was a great night of music.

When I walked into the Snout Saloon, it was packed. A very full bar. It immediately occurred to me, the last time the Snout was so filled with people was New Years night. The band that night, was again Assembly Required. The reason for the draw, is in some ways a mystery to me, because technically, they are far from flawless. I believe they are improved by the personnel change since New Years, the band has picked up Jason Chambers on bass. Still, they are best described as "a little rough around the edges" But, they are a party band, and somehow either despite the crowd, or with the help of the crowd, Assembly Required puts on a great show!

After the show, Brian asked me to not write about this one. I grunted in response, which I feel can't truly be classified as either a yes or a no. So here I am. It was a rare, not good show at the Snout Saloon this week. Not completely because of any fault of Brian's, it was, in combination with a few other things, an odd crowd.

Usually I devote these pages to traditional live music. Guitars, drummers and the like. But Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, is a special occasion. And, sometimes I feel like there is some crossover into the art form of live performance. It isn't always just a DJ spinning disks. Erik, Dewey's House DJ, I would definitely classify as live performance. He puts on a good show. His patter is fun and fills the floor. The rap/hip-hop music selection was great. The crowd, was enthused and knew every song. I only just dip my toes into hip-hop, so I was a little less familiar with most of the music. Even still, I knew a few.
